Deliverable: Reflect on the following questions in a blog post on your portfolio site (at least 400 words).
The most important thing I learned over the semester is patience is key. With using new software you have never used before you have to be patient with figuring out the details/tricks on how it runs. This takes a lot of time, not only that, but a lot of trial and error. I will also say it’s okay you don’t know anything. When starting, mostly everyone in Vivero Fellow was telling me “it’s okay you don’t know how to do something, you’ll learn along the way”, but I was sure to actually believe that or not. In the end, it ended up being true.
Something that worked for me was the little mini projects and videos given to us in our training. I think they were really useful and the videos helped give a visual representation with the software to know what was going on. The mini project that was given to us in our training also allowed us to engage with the software which I thought was nice. I also liked how the Wiki Vivero page was set and organized, helping me stay on task. Some things that I found confusing were some of the training guides for the software were a little outdated, or confusing with the wording, but other than that everything was fine.
Since I will be studying abroad I will not have a project next semester, but looking forward to next fall I’m excited to see what new project ideas are going to be available to work with. The documentation that I created was finished to do my project only being a semester long. I created something specific enough to get the user ready to work with the project and help them get familiar with the tools that we’ve been using. In a way catching them up to speed on what we were doing. Later on I provided things I personally had trouble with giving that future person a guided on how to go through the tool. I also added some tips and important information they should know to always have Alt text on images and always give credit to the image owner. Obviously it depends on what they’re going to be helping with the project, but overall I think I helped them understand the basic importance of the project and what to do.
The scholarship tools I’m interested in exploring are WeVideo and something that has to do with content creation, around that realm. I’m also interested in helping students with their study methods in allowing them to access resources quicker and more efficiently. Not sure how, but in some way make their stressful life a little easier.
