Deliverable: reflect in a blog post in your portfolio site on your project work so far, and on your plans for the rest of the semester after Fall Break (at least 300 words). What have you accomplished? What are your next steps? What issues or obstacles have you encountered that you have resolved or that you are still thinking through? What lingering questions do you have about the project or about your next steps?

So far with my project it is coming together. We have a domain and a cite up and ready to go. My project lead and I also been having meetings in order to see what is the next step with our project, so overall we’re on the right track. My plans for the rest of the semester with this project is to continue meeting the expectations given from my project lead, have really good effective communication, and being a step closer in finishing up our project in time.

Somethings I feel like I accomplished a lot based on starting of my project as well as getting to know and work with the tools when creating the website. My next steps is to continue working on the project, have effective communication with Project Lead and have fun with the layout and design of the project. Some issues I encountered with is just getting the website looking pretty. As well as having some of the functions overlapping one another on my page and it being a mess, but overall is something I can always work with and do trial and error. Some questions I have about the project is that in the end of the semester will we have a showcase where we give introductions or present our projects that we been working with or is that in the Spring?

Next week I will be going into Fall Break so I’ll post back in a week!

In a blog post on your portfolio site, reflect on the experience of learning how to use Audacity for audio editing. How would you feel about helping someone else learn how to use it?

As of now I don’t feel too confident do to it myself since I am having issues recording sound and not being to hear anything.

What did you find most interesting? What did you find most frustrating? What questions do you still have, and what parts of the tool do you want to explore more deeply?

• I found a lot of stuff interesting and this tool being something I can see myself using in the feature as long as I get more practice with using it in the future. Even though it’s a cool tool to know about a lot of it was really tricky to deal with. First of opening the tool where you have to download another tool was confusing. Second, I wasn’t able to hear or produce noise, and lastly it’s a lot of downloading and not sure if I continue doing this how my computer will hold up.
• My questions for this tool is how to record, or is it my computer feature thing?
• Secondly if I want to create a remix is it possible I just have to continue in downloading new features for it?

• How would you feel about helping someone else learn how to use Gale Digital Scholar Lab? What did you find most interesting? What did you find most frustrating? What questions do you still have, and what parts of the tool do you want to explore more deeply?

I think I can manage somewhat with Gale Digital Scholar Lab if there was a question that a student would come up to me I can simply pull out the Vivero Training cite or a YouTube video where we can both learn. The part that I found very interesting was the Ngram feature, which stands for Number of words. I taught this was really cool using this feature in order to see how many words are being repeated in the text.  With the commands we can change it from top 25 to 100 also frequency or count, and the best thing is that we can download the bar chart which is cool to have that option for when it can be useful. Something that I found vey frustrating was when I was following the instructions where I couldn’t see specific terms there were instructions us we should see. For example when I uploaded my data the instructions told me to make sure it said “successfully uploaded” but I wasn’t able to see it at all. I saw that it said “Uploaded” but not successfully, so not sure if I did something wrong on my end. I want to explore the “Sentiment Analysis” and the “Document Clustering” I wanted to see how the algorithms worked for both of these functions and if it does a good job in doing so.

• Look through the Gale Research Showcase and examine some of the student research projects. What are some of the steps that the student researchers have to take? Does seeing other student’s work change your view of the tool or of text analysis, and does it change your confidence in your ability to use the tool?

Some of the steps the other students had to take where first have ideas on what to do, than they would have to collect and build does ideas, afterwards they would begin with asking specific questions based on there topic, later begin playing with the tools using all the features they have to get or create the information they need. I think seeing other student’s work does help me visualize what is to be expected and does help me understand step by step on what to expect if someone where to ask me a question.
